Innovation
Having worked in a Startup (INQ) and a Co-Innovation Lab (HCL-Deutsche Bank), I've been able to put the principles of innovative design into practice
ideation and Sketching
Sketching and brainstorming, as a designer, or as part of a collaborative group, is an effective way to explore and share ideas quickly.

Storyboarding
I use Storyboards in collaborative design workshops and during the ideation phase to help put the user needs in context and explore how a new solution might help

conceptual design
Example
INQ Material was a mobile app which integrated social content and sharing into a news and magazine-styled feed. As well as exploring how the app would work and look, these concepts investigated how content could be structured for the user.

prototyping
My prototype being user tested with Ministry of Justice users
I tend to use Axure as a rapid prototyping tool.
Whilst working for the Ministry of Justice I used the Gov.uk prototyping tool to create a responsive prototype which was taken out to test with users.
Of course, when time is of the essence paper prototyping can be just as useful.
design patents
2009 - Automatic Route Generator - Sony Ericsson
Designed an application for runners that would automatically generate a route based on their current location and the distance they wanted to run, safely delivering them home or to a specified destination at the end of the route. The app would provide real-time directions throughout, via a headset, much like an in-car GPS system.
2011 - Multitasking/ Navigation model - INQ Mobile
Developed a novel method of navigating and multitasking between applications on the Android mobile platform. The design involved a solid understanding of the Android’s framework and multitasking model in order to know what could be changed and where we could add value. Involved motion design skills and working with Fjord agency to help realise the design.
2011 - INQ Lockscreen - INQ Mobile
Co-designer (unnamed) on a novel method of unlocking a touchscreen phone via a fluid mechanism. The user breaks the boundary of the ‘membrane’ to release the lock. One of the first lock screens to allow direct access to other applications.
